Quetzal Tour
The Quetzal (Pharomachrus mocinno), is a typical bird of the Central American ecosystem of montane oak forests. It is an altitudinal migrant bird that moves through the continuous forest, which is why it is affected by habitat loss and fragmentation. Its behavior in ecosystems enables seed survival, promotes the colonization of isolated forest patches and maintains the population of tree species with limited distributional ranges. In Costa Rica, the quetzal is found in the highlands of the Tilarán and Talamanca mountain ranges and the Central volcanic mountain system. In Talamanca, this species can be found in Los Santos Forest Reserve, where the communities of Providencia, Lira, Jaboncillo, Siberia, San Gerardo and Copey are located. Our Lodge is in Copey de Dota, and we offer a bird watching tour near our facilities, as well as important information about its general habitat*.
